5 Tips To Avoid Overwhelm At WordCamp Dublin 2017

The WordCamp Dublin schedule is up and – *ouch* – there are like a million sessions you want to attend, lots of coffee you need to drink, early morning registration, amazing workshops, networking, awesome swag, free lunch, going to the party and pretend you’re not drinking…

Well, you’re not alone!

We’ve been at WordCamp Europe in the last 2 years (with over 2,000 WordPressers) and we definitely got overwhelmed. At least – I certainly did.

So, if you want to take it easy and make the most of your 2-day conference without burning down, here are some useful tips!

1. Don’t take (too many) notes

I mean, if you want to, go ahead 🙂

But keep in mind all slides will be shared online right after the event (it’s required).

Enjoy, listen, and maybe write down 2 takeaways or actions you will be taking as a result of any session you attend.

Taking action is much better than taking notes and doing nothing with it!

2. Grab a sit at the front

You wouldn’t want to do like the cat in the picture above… right?!

If you sit at the front of the room you’ll be automatically concentrated – hungover, early morning or advanced topic permitting!

You’ll be able to see the slides better and have the chance to interact directly with the speaker 🙂 Go for it!

3. Don’t attend all sessions

There is enough time to move between the two rooms and the other areas of the venue. However, don’t stress too much if you can’t make it to a presentation or if some interesting sessions are at the same time – you’re not going to be able to attend them all anyway.

Ask a friend to come with you to WordCamp Dublin, split yourselves across different talks, and then share takeaways during coffee, lunch or the after-party! Tickets are still available!

4. Take breaks, maybe naps…

You can drink a free coffee (or two). Or maybe go for a walk around beautiful DCU. Why not, you can grab your jacket and go for a nap under a tree…

Everything is allowed 🙂

Of course, you can also chat with #WCDUB sponsors, grab some free swag or spend some time at the WP Help Desk, where you can ask our volunteers questions on a 1-to-1 basis!

5. ENJOY

Yes, E-N-J-O-Y in capital LETTERS!

This is our main goal, and we want you to embrace it fully.

Have fun. Meet new friends. Learn new things. Go to the after-party. Have a blast 🙂
